Sliding Notes 1.6 – “W3C Tribute”

This entry is part of a series, Sliding Notes Releases»

w3c-2-textorizedHere is yet another update to Sliding Notes. Besides various code improvements, it establishes conformity to the W3C XHTML 1.0 standard (important for sites that show the valid XHTML badge).

Prior versions of Sliding Notes have generated some HTML that was not quite valid XHTML. This did not affect how a page looked like, but a W3C validation check would fail with some spurious error messages. This has been fixed now. (Note though that this plugin cannot assure your whole site is valid XHTML, just the HTML parts it creates itself.)

Get it as usual at wordpress.org.

  • Looking forward to the next incarnation…

I am wondering if it is possible to add some kind of anchor to the top of the slider. When one group of multiple sliders are on a page and each slider contains a substantial amount of content, it would be nice to have the browser ‘re-locate’ to the top of the newly toggled slider.

Right now, when one slider is open and the user scrolls down the content to the bottom… and clicks on the next slider… the previous slider closes and the new slider opens: as it should. But… the user now has to manually scroll back up to the top of the newly opened slider content.

    Thanks for the great work!

    • What a coincidence! I’ve just encountered that issue myself and added it to my to-do list. 🙂

  • Hi Hackadelic,
Great work, I’m wondering if there’s a way to style the hackadelic-sliderButton when its active or open, I’d like to put a background-color on it only when opened. Do you know of a way I can do that?

    Thanks

    Mike

  • Zoran,

Nice plugin, my friend. I’ve got it working nicely on one of my sites and love it!

I’ve tried it on another site (same server), and I get the button to open up into a full width, very thin bubble, with no content;-/

It’s probably a conflict with another plugin(s), but I’m wondering if you would mind pointing me in the direction of a good tutorial on troubleshooting conflicts. (??)

There’s no way that I fall into the same scripting class as you, but I’m not afraid to learn, or ask.

I’m an old dog who can learn new (and old) tricks;-)

btw – I am a poet, and I *respect* your political views, even when we disagree. That’s what freedom is all about! After all, some folks don’t like poets who rhyme 8^/

    • Dave, on your problem, check out this article here.

Political views?!? What political views do you mean???

AFAIR I haven’t presented any political views of mine here on this blog. 😕

  • I want to to design fo my websid

    • Sumant, what do you mean? 😮

  • There seems to be a Sliding Notes v 1.6 bug related to WordPress-mu. Once the total number of characters goes beyond a certain count, no sliding notes are displayed at all. I believe the number of charaters is about 5100 including spaces.

I tested it to fail on WP-mu 2.8.4 on various themes. Also, it worked without problem on standard WordPress 2.8.4.

    • Gary, it may be a problem in general WPMU shortcode processing.

What do you mean “no sliding notes are displayed at all”? Like there is a slider button, but nothing happens when it’s clicked? Or it opens an empty note? Or neither note nor button are displayed (and what is displayed instead of the button)?

  • Hi,

I like it…but the last 1.6 plugin update went out with a nasty :
Warning: include(template.settings.php) [function.include]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/users5/r/rvator/www/blogaf/wp-content/plugins/hackadelic-sliding-notes/hackadelic-sliders.php on line 234

    any idea ?

    Thanks

    • Ian, it was a distribution error. That file was simply missing from the distribution. Version 1.6.1 is out that includes it.

  • Hackadelic,

anyways……… many thanks for so prompt reply.

    • Sujit, thanks.

It’s a limitation of WordPress that you can’t have nested shortcodes of any kind. Hence, no nested sliding notes either… 🙁
