The Rise Of A New Spam Generation?
I just went through my spam queue (as I had a couple of false positives lately), and I was very surprise to discover a comment in it that escapes the usual spam schema. Instead of the usual rubbish with little to no sense at all, this one could actually make sense, at least on some websites.
TOC Boxes 1.5 With Auto-Insertion
Finally I got around to finish this new major release of my TOC Boxes plugin, with a bunch of long wanted new features.
Actually, there are so many new features and improvements, that I decided it deserved to fast-forward to version number 1.5. Hence the “unofficial” name of the release: Warp 3.
Overall, the plugin now provides a bunch of settings, partly related to existing, partly to new features.
Download it as usually at wordpress.org, and find out in the rest of this post about the exciting new features and improvements. Read more >>
Why Desktop Blogging Clients Rock
Way back in a past post , I wrote about my hesitation to implement features that wouldn’t be accessible via desktop blogging clients, which I find preferable to web-based editors.
Here are some of the benefits of a desktop blogging client:
These Dumb Spammers!
Warning: Rant follows!
Since I recently wrote “Spam Gratitude“, the amount of spam I’m getting has almost doubled. Now I don’t know if this is just an unlucky coincidence, or a mind-sick manifestation of the law of attraction, but whatever it is, it provides occasion for studying spam. And what I believe to have found out is:
Spammers must be real morons.
(If you are a spammer, and feel insulted now, your’re welcome. Read on – I have every intention to insult you a couple of times more. 😛 )
Recent Guest Comments Widget – Who Needs It?
I implemented a slight variation of the WordPress built-in recent comments widget that only shows comments from people other than me, so that it’s in conjunction with my “I wrote” / “You wrote” sidebar titles. It’s already in place here on my blog.
The current implementation is very specific to my site, and would need further work to make it generally usable – work that I’d be ready to invest if there’s enough public interest.
Drop me a note if you think this widget would be useful to you, and you would like to see it download-ready on wordpress.org.
TOC Boxes 1.2.1 Resolves Conflict With Nofollow Reciprocity
The other day I installed the Nofollow Reciprocity plugin… and Bang! – another plugin conflict saw the light of day: On multipage posts, exactly at the second page the TOC boxes got entirely messed up.
Since I do not really use the multipage feature, I only noticed today, while working on, and testing,1 new TOC Boxes features. It took me a while to figure out that there is no bug in the TOC Boxes code, but a conflict stemming from somewhere else. Once I realized this though, it wasn’t hard to guess where the conflict comes from. After deactivating “Nofollow Reciprocity”, everything went back to normal.
- Aye, I test all the way long while I develop! 😉 [↩]
Stop Wasting SEO Juice – NoFollow Links To Flickr
This may not be big news, but I wasn’t really aware of it, and I can imagine there are others who aren’t aware either.
In early 2008, Flickr began NOFOLLOWing hyperlinks in their photo profile pages.
What does that mean?
Sliding Notes 1.4.1 Released
A minor update of Sliding Notes is out.
The release provides a workaround for a weird cross-browser issue on some themes, like the one reported by Magnus.
Download it as usually at wordpress.org.
A Fire That Flies: DVD Cult And Delight
Every now and then, a film or TV series is made that seems to transcend the separation between reality and fiction, between cast and audience, between “them” and “us”. Not only for the story they tell, but also – and especially – because of the casts and their distinctive and lovingly coined roles, these artworks manage to become almost a second home to their fans, and the characters therein almost like close friends.
Such artworks become what is usually called a cult!
TOC Boxes 1.2 With Multipage Support Released
I’m proud to announce that, thanks to Sascha’s hint, TOC-Boxes now support multi-page posts.
